Morning prayer

Monday, APR 06 – Sunday, APr 12

Opening Response and Prayer

Open our lips, O God,

     and our mouths will proclaim Your praise!

Let Your way become known to all the earth.

     And Your salvation among all the nations!

Blessed are You, Lord God of our salvation, to You be praise and glory forever.  As a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, Your only Son was lifted up that He might draw the whole world to Him.  May we walk this day in the way of the cross and always be ready to share its weight, declaring Your love for all the world.

Blessed be God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

     Blessed be the Lord forever.

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us then pray with one heart and mind.

Silence for Reflection

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of Your presence, O God, set our hearts of fire with love for You; both now and for ever.  Amen!

Morning Song – And Can It Be

And can it be that I should gain

an interest in the Savior’s blood?

Died He for me, who caused His pain?

For me, who Him to death pursued?

Amazing Love! How can it be

that You, my God, shouldst die for me?

Amazing Love!  How can it be

that You, my God, shouldst die for me?

‘Tis mystery all!  The Immortal dies!

Who can explore His strange design?

In vain the firstborn seraph tries

to sound the depths of love Divine!

‘Tis mercy all!  Let earth adore,

let angel minds inquire no more.

‘Tis mercy all!  Let earth adore,

let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above,

so free so infinite His grace;

emptied Himself of all but love,

and bled for Adam’s helpless race:

‘Tis mercy all, immense and free;

for, O my God, it found out me;

‘Tis mercy all, immense and free;

for, O my God, it found out me;

Prayer for Illumination

Speaking God, as You spoke to Israel through the prophets and to Your Church through the Apostles, Speak now to our heart so that we might grow in grace and in the knowledge of Your Son, Jesus.  Amen!

Response to the Word

Word of God speak; will You pour down like rain,

Open my eyes to see Your majesty.

To be still and know that you’re in this place.

Please let me stay and rest in your holiness,

Word of God, Speak

Affirmation of Faith for Holy Week

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was: Conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, died and was buried; He descended to the dead; On the third day, He rose again; He ascended to heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father.  From there, He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen!

Almighty God, whose dear Son went not up to joy but first He suffered pain, and entered not into glory before He was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ Your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever, teaching us to pray, saying:

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, holy is Your name, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.  Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.  For the Kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours, now and forever.  Amen!

Morning Song – And Can It Be

Long my imprisoned spirit lay

fast bound in sin and nature’s night;

Your eye diffused a quickening ray,

I woke, the dungeon flamed with light.

My chains fell off, my heart was free;

I rose went forth, and followed Thee.

My chains fell off, my heart was free;

I rose went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread; J

esus, and all in Him is mine!

Alive in Him, my Living Head,

and clothed in righteousness Divine,

bold I approach the eternal throne,

and claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Bold I approach the eternal throne,

and claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, who walked the path set before Him in humble obedience to the Father: Grant us Your grace, to walk this path with You, always keeping our eyes on You, so that in the end we might gain life – abundant and eternal.  Amen!
