We are Called to Pray and Praise by God’s Word

Opening Response

Open our lips, O God

And our mouths will

proclaim Your praise

Keep watch, for you do not

know when the Master

of the house will return,

at evening, or at midnight, in the wee-hours, or in the morning; lest when He comes He finds you sleeping. (Mk 13)

Silence for Reflection

Beloved, let us make our humble

confession to our Forgiving Father:

Loving and Merciful Father,

like lost sheep, we have erred

and strayed from Your ways,

We have followed too much the

devices and desires of our own hearts.

We have offended against

Your holy commandments,

leaving undone things

we ought to have done,

and doing things we

ought not to have done.

Break the heart of stone

created by our many

willful failings and restore

a willing spirit within each of us.

And mercifully grant us such

strength of spirit that we

might serve you faithfully

this day and always.  Amen!

Morning Song – UMH 196

Come, Thou Long–Expected Jesus

Come, O long-expected Jesus,

born to set Your people free;

from our fears and sins release us;

let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel’s strength and consolation,

Hope of all the earth You are;

dear Desire of every nation,

Joy of every longing heart.

Born Your people to do deliver,

born a child and yet, a King,

born to reign in us forever,

now Your gracious Kingdom bring.

By Your own eternal Spirit,

rule in all our hearts alone;

by Your all-sufficient merit,

raise us to Your glorious throne.

We Respond in Faith to God’s Word

The Affirmation of Faith

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ,

His only Son, our Lord,

who was:

Conceived by the Holy Spirit;

Born of the Virgin Mary;

Suffered under Pontius Pilate;

Was crucified, died, and was buried;

He descended to the dead.

On the third day, He rose again;

He ascended to heaven,

Is seated at the

right hand of the Father,

and will come again to

judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The holy catholic church,

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body,

And the life everlasting.  Amen!
